"The team took the time to understand the vision behind The Pilgrm and the building's own character, over a journey that for myself, started six years ago. Like us, they could see what the building could one day become, making them the ideal partner."
Jason Catifeoglou, OwnerThe Pilgrm, located just off Hyde Park, London is a hotel fit-out project where we faced the challenge of transforming a building that had endured 50 years of poor renovations. Our goal was to restore the hotel’s Victorian heritage, enhancing its story and glory while maintaining a contemporary edge. The project involved revitalising the bedrooms, corridors, and communal spaces, while embracing timeless design elements with an emphasis on materials that have both longevity and elegance.
The primary objectives for The Pilgrm fit-out were:
Our approach vision was centred around bringing back the beauty and significance of the Victorian row while crafting spaces that would feel modern and inviting.
To align with the hotel’s storied history, we sought materials that would transcend trends and provide a sense of timeless luxury. We chose reclaimed parquet timber flooring and incorporated steel and brass components, which were all custom-made within a 5-mile radius in our hometown of Sheffield and carefully shipped down to London. The design was deeply influenced by a commitment to craftsmanship, creating a unique atmosphere that connected the old with the new.
Given the building’s history and the project’s scale, the fit-out required meticulous planning and careful execution. Every space was carefully restored and reimagined, maintaining its character while integrating modern comforts. The choice of materials, including the use of bespoke furniture, added significant time to the construction but ensured the authenticity of the space.
The bespoke furniture was a key element of the design. We designed and crafted 1,000 custom pieces in our own workshop, ensuring that each item reflected the uniqueness of The Pilgrm. The furniture, upholstery, lighting and textiles were sourced and made with great care to match the building’s timeless character while meeting modern-day standards for comfort and function.
The quality of craftsmanship and attention to detail is evident throughout the entire fit-out. From the reclaimed timbers that line the walls to the custom steel and brass fixtures, every element was designed to last. The bespoke furniture, with its intricate upholstery and refined textiles, is an embodiment of high-quality craftsmanship. These custom pieces add to the distinct character of the hotel, complementing the historical architecture with a sense of modern luxury.
Despite the complexities involved in restoring such a historically significant building, the project was delivered on time and within budget. The focus on quality materials and bespoke craftsmanship required careful coordination, but our team ensured that all phases of the project were executed as planned. The final result is a perfect blend of heritage and modernity, creating an exceptional experience for guests.
Sustainability played an important role in the design and fit-out of The Pilgrm. By using reclaimed timbers and locally sourced materials such as the steel produced in Sheffield, we were able to minimise the project’s environmental footprint while adding character and durability to the space. Furthermore, bespoke furnishings not only enhanced the aesthetic but also contributed to sustainability by reducing waste and promoting local craftsmanship.
Guests have expressed overwhelming satisfaction with the finished space. The seamless integration of historical elements with contemporary design has created an inviting atmosphere that resonates with both modern travellers and those seeking a connection to the past. Particular praise has been given to the comfort and quality of the rooms, as well as the beautifully restored corridors and common spaces. The bespoke furniture adds a personal touch that makes the experience feel uniquely tailored to The Pilgrm.
We transformed a tired opticians in the leafy suburb of Broomhill, Sheffield, into a sleek, modern space that exceeded the client and customers' expectations.
View projectLocated in the heart of Kelham Island, Sheffield, this Sicilian restaurant project blends authentic Mediterranean charm with the raw beauty of industrial Sheffield. We were privileged to work closely with Sarah & Raffa (the clients) to transform this old industrial steel works into a warm, welcoming space that captures the essence of rustic Sicily.
